Kung Fu Club
Our club runs in conjunction with our SFU Rec Kung Fu instructional classes, together organizing social and recreational events, fundraisers, and demonstrations. Part of our club philosophy is the idea that each and every member is an important part of our club family, so no member should ever feel left out or left behind.
SFU Kung Fu runs and participates in numerous martial arts and social events every semester so that our members all get to know each other both as friends and as training partners. These events include Kung Fu movie nights, icebreakers, dinner outings, skating, extra training, volunteering at locally-based International Martial Arts Tournements, performances at martial arts demonstrations, lasertag, an annual Summer Whistler fun-and-training retreat, as well as one large social event at the end each semester (our Xmas party, Year-End 'Final Event', and our Great Annual End-of-Summer Beach Party). We also have student assistant instructors who will help new students learn and understand this art through classes.
SFU Kung Fu is an outgrowth of a project began at UBC a number of years ago and has evolved to become the largest martial arts club at UBC. As the sister club of UBC Kung Fu, SFU Kung Fu builds on that spirit while breaking in new traditions on the mountain. While our philosophy is "two clubs, two universities, one family", our club retains the best aspects of our sister club and yet forges a distinct new path for Kung Fu at SFU. It is run by SFU students for SFU students, helping to create a vibrant new light in the community of SFU.
