Program

Have you ever wondered how molecules are able to form and what attracts them to each other? Using biological physics, we better understand how organisms form and evolve and how life itself is organized.

Biological Physics studies the physical properties of biological organisms at all levels of systems, from DNA to large ecosystems. At the molecular level you might look at what forces are at play in the division of cells and the creation of proteins, where distances measured are very small and you learn use specialized tools to make measurements of phenomena.

Degree offered: Bachelor of Science

Career opportunities

Students graduating with physics degrees are in high demand: in the 2007 BC University Presidents Council Survey of graduates, SFU physical science graduates enjoyed a 100% employment rate and had an average salary of $69,049. Graduates have careers in many areas, including the biotechnology industry, in sales positions with science-oriented employers, and in research and development.
