History

History introduces students to major world regions and cultures, to historical periods, and to social, political, cultural and economic themes.

Is History for you?

History is for students who have a natural curiosity about our human past and how it determines our present and our future. A love of reading and research will help determine success in the study of History, as students will learn critical thinking, research, writing and communication skills. Students of History will develop a deep and discerning approach to our past and a broad knowledge of human experience.

Areas of study

History courses reflect our local context while also providing a global perspective, and are divided into regional groups: Europe, the Americas, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

History students can also apply for international exchange with a number of partner universities throughout the world, and the Department has an active undergraduate student union which organizes events such as socials, movie nights and Undergraduate History Conferences.
