| Program | Hellenic Studies is an interdisciplinary field based on the study of Greek antiquity, Greco-Roman civilization, the Byzantine Empire, the Ottoman period in Southeastern Europe and Asia Minor and the Modern Greek world. It includes the study of language, literature, history, music, religion, archaeology, politics, philosophy, art, culture and civilization. Is Hellenic Studies for you?Hellenic Studies is for students who wish to understand Ancient Hellenic culture – history, language and literature – in addition to modern Greece. Students should have an active interest in history and language in particular, in addition to curiosity about literature, philosophy and political science. Hellenic Studies is also for students interested in participating in international field schools and exchange programmes in over 20 countries, and for those who want co-op placements in government, NGO and business organizations. Areas of studyHellenic Studies offers courses covering a range of complex issues including history (ancient, medieval and modern), aspects of literature, political science and studies in antiquity. Students will develop a basic understanding of the Hellenic world from ancient times to the present by studying classical mythology, ancient philosophy, and related courses offered in Humanities, History, and Linguistics. Students of Hellenic Studies may also participate in field schools in Greece, cultural and educational exchanges, as well as gain job experience in co-op program placements.
