Program

Economics affects every aspect of life – your job, your education, how you spend money, whether you drive to university or take the bus.
Economics also helps to explain larger forces that affect Canada and the world – the price of gas, our health care system, international business, housing prices and global income inequalities.
Economics is about choice; about making decisions given the constraints imposed by income, costs, and time; about how societies can use scarce resources to satisfy their needs.

Is Economics for you?

Studying economics is for students who are analytical, interested in
thinking about the world and social issues, and for students who are reasonably competent in mathematics, including calculus and matrix algebra. By providing students with a way of analyzing and solving problems, economics combines well with many disciplines in the social sciences, humanities, engineering, business, psychology, medicine, and mathematics, among others.

Areas of study

Economics allows you to study everything from economic history
and industrial organization to comparative economic systems and international trade and finance. Economics can also involve work in statistics, calculus, monetary theory, banking and environment economics.

An education in Economics provides a good basis for future studies in
business, politics or law.
