All new SFU students are encouraged to attend Discover SFU New Student Orientation! Please read the information below to determine the right program(s) for you then click the registration link at the bottom of the page.

 

Summer 2012 Undergraduate Orientation

Summer 2012 Orientation is for students starting classes in May 2012.

We offer Orientation programs for new students. You can attend one or all of the programs, depending on your needs. The programs are integrated to ensure little duplication of information and activities. Learn more about each session by clicking on the links.

Save the dates for Fall Orientation if you are coming to SFU in September:

August 28 - September 2: Residence Orientation (includes Campus and International Orientation)

August 29 - 30: Campus Orientation

August 31: International Orientation (tentative)

September 4-7: Week of Welcome for all students

Burnaby Campus Orientation

+ Friday May 4, 2012 (in the afternoon)

For: New students starting programs at SFU in the Spring semester at the Burnaby campus.

What is included: Lunch, Campus Tour, Faculty Session, Student Life Session, Student Services Fair, an Orientation Kit, Clan Mentorship

Location: Academic Quadrangle, Burnaby Campus

How does it work: You will meet your Orientation Leader (OL), an SFU student volunteer who has been trained to work with new students. Your OL will lead you and a small group of new students through the Orientation day and help answer any questions you may have.

Cost: $35

International, Exchange and Study Abroad Orientation

+ Friday May 4, 2012 (in the morning)

For: All international, exchange and study abroad undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to attend. This program is open to new students at all three SFU campuses.

What is included: Immigration, Health Insurance, Academic Culture in Canada, and an introduction to SFU, Vancouver, and Canada.

Residence Orientation

+ Thursday May 3 and Friday May 4

For: This orientation is for all undergraduate students who will be new to living in SFU Residence during their studies.

Early Residence Move-in: Students with confirmed space in SFU residence for Spring 2012 who have registered for Campus and Residence Orientation are welcome to move in any time between 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Thursday May 3, 2012. For details on SFU Residence (how to apply, how to confirm & what to bring) visit our website. Details about how to move into Residence will be outlined in your Residence Offer Letter, as well as email communication from SFU Residence & Housing.

What is Included?: Activities, a trip to local stores (such as Bed Bath and Beyond and Metrotown) to buy necessities, an introduction to the Residence community and the Vancouver area, plus your choice of one campus Orientation program.

How does it work?: On your first day in Residence, you'll meet your Residence Orientation Leader (ROL), who is a returning SFU Residence student trained to make your transition to SFU Residence as comfortable, fun and safe as possible.

Cost: $85 (this includes the $35 Burnaby Campus Orientation fee)

 
 

 

Orientation Refund Policy

Registration refunds are only granted to students under the following conditions:

  • If your admission has been revoked by SFU, or
  • If you are under serious medical conditions (in which case, a medical note is required)

The last day for Summer Orientation 2012 refund is Monday April 23, 2012.

Note to Fraser International College Students

Fraser International College students are automatically registered in FIC Orientation, as well asĀ  SFU Residence Orientation once they have applied for and confirmed their Residence offer. Do not register on this page. Click here for more information on Fraser International College.
