Mission and Overview
The SFU International Mentorship Program is a student volunteer led program which connects new international students with current SFU students for friendship, support and guidance. This program is designed to:
Provide transition services and support to new international students
Promote intercultural understanding and friendship between SFU students of culturally diverse backgrounds
Provide leadership and mentorship opportunities to SFU students
Foster a community of future leaders with broad global perspectives
Further internationalize the SFU community
The SFU International Mentorship Program is dedicated to fostering positive relationships between returning students and new international students by bringing all together to share culturally rich experiences. The program assists new students to become more culturally aware and helps them adjust to a Canadian way of life, especially before and during the first weeks after arrival.
New international students will be connected with a mentor who can provide them with information, support and guidance, initially via email, and eventually in-person upon arrival in Vancouver. Students arriving in Vancouver for the first time who may not be familiar with the North American lifestyle in general, and Vancouver in particular, would benefit from the program.
