Once you log in (see login help), the Student Information System shows your information in a single window.

What can I do on the Student Center? (see the screenshot)

About enrollment appointments

Your undergraduate enrollment appointment is the earliest date and time at which you may enroll in classes. To find out your enrollment date, look on the right side of the Student Center in the grey box. (Graduate students do not have enrollment appointments.)

Prior to your enrollment date, you should familiarize yourself with the classes offered and plan your schedule.

Checking a class's outline

Each class has a summary of the books, assignments, and class details which is available online. Course outline database.

How to add a class

  • login to the Student Information System
  • under "Academics" and "Enrollment", click on "Add a class"
  • either Search for Class or enter the class number if you know it (eg, 1086)

When an "OK to waitlist?" checkbox appears, check it if you wish. This allows you to be waitlisted for the course if the requested section is full.
  • fill your shopping cart with classes and submit.

The "error found" message

If you see this message, click on the link associated with it to see whether you have a hold on your record that prevents the class from being added. You may be able to deal with the hold yourself; if you can't, contact your department or Student Services.

How to drop/swap/edit a class*

  • login to the Student Information System
  • under "Academics" and "Enrollment", click on "Drop a class" (see screenshot) or choose Drop or Swap or Edit from the left menu.

Swapping will exchange classes, editing will allow you to change just tutorials or labs for a given class

  • make sure you are dropping/swapping/editing the right class!
  • click "submit"

* Co-op and practicum classes cannot be dropped online: you must speak to your Co-op advisor or department

About the waitlist process

The waitlist process moves students from the waitlist to enrolled status when a space opens up in the section. Spaces become available through enrollment drops or an enrollment capacity increase. When a class has spaces available, the class status remains closed until the waitlist process runs overnight. Therefore, the system attempts to move students in the waitlist before students who are not in the waitlist try to get into the class.

Time Schedule Conflict: The waitlist process checks time schedule conflict with other courses already enrolled. If the student in #1 position of the waitlist has a time schedule conflict with another course, the system will skip the student and enroll the next available student in the waitlist. Thus, it is very important to check the time schedule of all courses enrolled and waitlisted.

Duplicate courses and GPA

  • Where a student repeats a course, the course(s) with the lower grade will be recorded on official records as an excluded course.

  • If the same grade or grade equivalent value is earned for a repeated course, the course that was completed most recently is included in the term grade point average (GPA) and cumulative GPA, and the former course is excluded in the term GPA and cumulative GPA

  • A student’s academic standing for previous terms does not change even though the GPA changes.

Closed sections/permission number

Permission from department: If you received permission from a department in order to enroll in a class without satisfying prerequisites, you are allowed to enroll into the course only if there are spaces available. For more information, please contact the department.

All about prerequisites

  • Prerequisite: a requirement needed to enroll in a course
  • Co-requisite: a course to be taken at the same time as another course if not taken previously

Reserved seats

Some faculties and department place enrollment restrictions so as to reserve seats for students majoring in the particular programs in the department or faculty.  Some of those departments/faculties lift the restriction during the enrollment period. It is normally specified in the course time table or course detail on the Student Information System.

Maximum units allowed

If you want to enroll for more than the maximum allowable number of units in a term, you must have permission of your Faculty:
