Insurance / Fees

Fee Schedule
Fees represent the lower end of the Physiotherapy Association of BC's rate recommendations.

Initial Visit: $50.00
Follow-up visits: $45.00
ICBC claims user fee: $15.00
Premium Assistance coverage: $20.00 (for first 10 visits)
(NOTE: Many students qualify for premium assistance coverage - see details below)

Fees can be paid by Visa, MasterCard, Debit, Cash or Cheque.

Are you eligible for coverage?

Undergraduate Students
The SFSS Health and Dental Plan, effective January 1, 2009 covers all SFU undergraduate students (registered in 3 or more credits) for their physiotherapy treatments. The plan reimburses $20 per visit, for all the details visit www.ihaveaplan.ca.

Students may have also have coverage if they have private Extended Medical Benefits or qualify for MSP Premium Assistance.

Premium Assistance
You may qualify for Premium Assistance if you had an annual income of $19,000 or less in the previous year, and are a Canadian Citizen or landed immigrant. For more information, call 604.683.7151

Extended Medical Benefits
Students with Extended Medical Benefits can seek reimbursement through most private plans. Check your plan for details. You'll need to submit your receipts to your insurance agency for reimbursement.

Grad Students
Graduate students can access insurance through the SFSS Graduate Benefit Plan. The SFSS Graduate Benefit Plan covers $35 per visit to see a physiotherapist up to $400 per calendar year.


SFU Staff and Faculty
Staff and faculty with Pacific Blue Cross Group Extended Health Benefits will be reimbursed $19.08 (80% of $23.85) per visit for the first 12 visits per calendar year.  After 12 visits, 80% of the full treatment fee will be reimbursed. For details, visit www.sfu.ca/human-resources

UniverCity Community Residents
We welcome UniverCity residents to use our physiotherapy services. Coverage will depend on your medical plan), insurance or WCB/ICBC coverage.

WCB or ICBC injuries
Physiotherapy services are available to all individuals who have claims with WCB and ICBC. Please obtain a doctor's referral prior to your initial visit. A $10.00 user fee applies to ICBC claims for patients with MSP coverage.

New Canadians
Because there is a three-month waiting period for health care coverage, you should apply for MSP as soon as possible upon entering Canada.  Temporary insurance coverage during the waiting period may be obtained through private insurance.
