Winter Food Drive

Food bank volunteer sorting boxes

From November 22nd – December 13th 2010, the SFU Food Bank  will run our annual Winter Food Drive. The bulk of donations for the Food Bank come from this initiative, and we are so grateful for all the support from the SFU Community. In 2009, more than 60 departments participated in the Winter Food Drive which collected over 9,000 food items!

We are looking for SFU Departments to participate in 2010! We encourage you to think creatively and encourage your fellow staff and faculty members to donate to your department’s box. If you are hosting a holiday gathering or party, ask participants to bring a non-perishable food item.

If you want to donate but are not affiliated with a participating department, you can bring your donations to Student Development at MBC 2000 or the SFSS General Office at MBC 2250 from 9am - 4:30pm.

Please see Donate for a list of our most-needed items.

Food for Fines

Do you have fines at any of SFU's libraries? SFU Library's "Food for Fines" campaign runs at all three libraries at the end of each semester. All collected food will go to the SFU Food Bank.

Here's how it works:

1. A $2 fine waiver will be applied for each item donated to a maximum of $20 (10 items)/campaign drive;
2. Donated food must be nonperishable and not expired; suggested items include: canned fruit, cereal, canned beans, juice/juice boxes, pasta, canned vegetables, children's lunch snacks
3. The waiver applies only to current fines -- it does not apply to charges for lost or damaged items and cannot be used as a credit to be applied to future fines.

Dig through those cupboards and save yourself some cash while helping those in need!

Residence Move-In

The SFU Food Bank hosts a booth with Student Services at Residence during the September move-in. We give out information on helping or using the Food Bank and collect donations!
