Current students

As a current student you have several scholarship options: university, private, endowed, and the undergraduate open scholarship (see below).

University, private and endowed scholarships

Friends and supporters of the university fund a number of scholarships for SFU students each term. To apply for one of them, you must

  1. Have completed at least nine units at SFU
  2. Be enrolled in at least nine units at SFU
  3. Have a minimum 3.50 CGPA (please note that the actual CGPA to win a scholarship may be higher than 3.50).

Along with academic merit, many of these scholarships have additional criteria that must be met in order for you to qualify. For a complete listing, check out our online Scholarship, Awards, and Bursaries database.

The Undergraduate Open Scholarship

The Undergraduate Open Scholarship recognizes and supports undergraduate students who are highly qualified academically and awards scholarships to students on a term by term basis.

The official description, eligibility requirements and monetary value are in the SFU Calendar (students.sfu.ca/calendar/student-info/undergrad-financial-aid.html).

Questions about the Undergraduate Open Scholarship can be emailed to fiassist@sfu.ca.

External scholarships

External scholarships are scholarships that are not directly administered by the university. SFU's Financial Aid and Awards department will publicize all known external scholarships and will provide you with the application form if available. For a select number of scholarships, such as the Rhodes Scholarship we will also collect the application form.
