BC students: Emergency loans
The Emergency Loan fund provides interim assistance to students experiencing unusual financial circumstances. Funds allocated under this program are adjudicated on a case-by-case basis. Therefore, all interested applicants will need to set up an interview with a Financial Aid and Awards Advisor to discuss the particulars of their situation.
The following regulations govern all loans for continuing students over which the University has jurisdiction:
- Short term emergency funds are available to students who urgently need money while awaiting receipt of other sources of funding.
- Emergency loans are not available for outstanding fees owed to the University.
- Students must have a demonstrated financial need and a secured source of repayment.
- Undergraduate students must be enrolled in a minimum of nine units of normal graded courses in the term of application. Challenge, audit, and credit free courses will not be considered.
- Graduate students must be enrolled for residence credit in an approved full-time program.
- Students must meet with a Financial Aid and Awards Advisor. It is the student’s responsibility to supply all requested documentation. Incomplete applications may be rejected.
- Simon Fraser University Emergency Loans are tenable only at SFU and only for the term indicated on the notice.
Please note: Emergency Loans cannot be granted to pay a student's outstanding institutional (ie, school) debt.
