New exchange students: Global Partnering System (GPS)
Do you have questions about Vancouver? Wondering what life is like at SFU? Don't know who to ask?... Join the GPS!
Applications are now closed.
What is the GPS?
The GPS is a social network that connects you to SFU students before you arrive here for your exchange term! You will be "partnered" with an SFU student who has either studied abroad or is considering it. Your "SFU Partner" will contact you approximately 1-2 months before the beginning of the term and will be in touch to help you prepare for your exchange here to SFU.
Once you arrive, we organize fun activities around town for the first weeks of the term and send out bulletins of events at SFU and around the city. You will have the opportunity to meet many fellow exchange students, and plenty of local SFU students as well!
Is there any cost for joining the GPS?
It is completely free to join the GPS, although some activities may require an entrance fee.
What kind of events will the GPS organize?
Here is a sample of the events that we have run in past terms:
- GPS Welcome Event
- Outdoor Yoga at Canada Place (Fall term only)
- Vancouver Giants Hockey Game
How can I join the GPS?
Applications for the Spring 2012 term are now closed.
The application should take 2-10 minutes to complete.
How do you decide who my SFU Partner will be?
Whenever possible, we will match you with a student who has either studied at your home university, or is hoping to in the future. Other factors will also be considered to make the match as mutually beneficial as possible!
