What is a full course load?
Fifteen units (typically 5 courses) is generally considered a full course load. You must ensure that you are enrolled in enough units to meet the requirements specific to your situation, as the requirements vary for financial aid, student visas, entrance scholarships, etc. For more details, please search for enrollment information in the Academic Calendar.
Maximum/minimum course load
Students who are newly admitted to SFU must enroll in and successfully complete a minimum of one course in their first term of study. At SFU, you are free to enroll in any course you wish, provided you meet the prerequisites and there are no further restrictions on the course. In general, you can enroll in 1 – 5 courses per term.
If you have personal requirements to be a “full-time” student, you will need to enroll in at least 3 courses (9 units) or whatever requirements you are presented with.
If you are a newly admitted student, you must complete at least ONE course during the term you are admitted for. If not, your admission to SFU will be forfeited. If you cannot attend classes during your admit term, you will need to submit a deferral appeal.
