Fall term deadlines

Fall term starts September 6, 2011; last day of exams will be December 18, 2011

Classes: add/swap/change tutorial

September 12 (Monday)	Last day to add classes, swap classes, change tutorials using the Student Information System
September 19 (Monday)	Last day to enroll for class challenge or switch your challenge from one class to another or regular enrollment in a class, with permission of the department,. (You can’t withdraw from class challenge without substituting a regular class.)
September 26 (Monday)	Last day to add classes through the department, with permission of the chair and instructor. Last day to change tutorials through the department. Last day to change a class to audit status.

September 12 (Monday)	Last day to completely withdraw from all classes using the Student Information System, with no Withdrawal notation on your academic record.
September 20 (Tuesday)	DROP PENALTIES: No tuition refund.
September 26 (Monday)	Last day to drop a class using the Student Information System, with no Withdrawal notation on your academic record. If withdrawing from all classes, a Withdrawal notation will be added to your transcript. No tuition refund.
October 11 (Tuesday)	Last day to drop a class using the Student Information System, with a Withdrawal notation on your academic record. No tuition refund.
December 2 (Friday)	Last day to apply to drop classes in the current term under extenuating circumstances (WE). (Applications received after this date will be considered retroactive and may take longer to process.)

Fees: payment and refunds/penalties

Payment

September 19 (Monday)	Deadline to pay tuition and student fees. After this date, every month a 2% penalty will be calculated and posted to your student account. (Official due date Sept 17 but extended to Monday due to official date falling on a weekend.)
October 25 (Tuesday)	Deadline to pay Co-op Practicum fees.

Refunds/penalties

August 5 (Friday)	Last day for 100% refund of tuition.
August 6 (Saturday) to September 12 (Monday)	Tuition penalty of $50 for each class dropped (maximum total penalty $100) during this period, if your net course load has decreased.
September 13 (Tuesday) to September 19 (Monday)	Tuition penalty of $100 for each class dropped during this period, if your net course load has decreased.
September 19 (Monday)	After this date, every month a 2% penalty will be assessed on any outstanding balance.
September 20 (Tuesday)	No refund for courses dropped (tuition penalty will be calculated and posted to your student account in week three of classes).
October 21 (Friday) after 2:30 pm	Refund cheques REQUESTED for overpayment, which are NOT related to scholarships and bursaries, are available for pickup, UNLESS payment has been made by personal cheque, which requires a 45 day clearance period.

Cards: Library ID/Surrey access/U-Pass

August 10 (Wednesday)

Start of Library/ID card production and updating at all three campuses. Please see students.sfu.ca/contact.html for hours of operation for Surrey, Vancouver and Burnaby campuses. Burnaby campus card production and updating will take place in MBC 1300 between Aug. 10th and Sept 9th.

Surrey program students: starting Fall 2011, you will need a new student Library/ID card that has a magnetic strip on the back. To swap your old card, please fill out the survey form between August 1st to August 31st. You will be notified via SFU email when it is ready for pick up. Please bring your old SFU Library/ID card for a swap at our Surrey registrar office located at Grand Hall.

U-Pass BC

Students must have an SFU Library/ID card with an activated encoded magnetic stripe on the back to obtain their U-Pass BC. Please see the website for more information.

Distance education materials/refunds

August 15 (Monday)	Class material pickup begins.
October 14 (Friday)	Deadline to return class material for partial material refund.

Financial aid

July 11 to July 22 (Monday to Friday)	Work-study application period.
August 29 to September 16 (Monday to Friday)	Bursary only application period
September 16 (Friday)	Deadline for application for private scholarships

Grades online

December 13 (Tuesday)

Grades from Fall 2011 term begin to be posted online.

Graduation application/cancellation

September 6 (Tuesday)	Deadline to cancel application to graduate in October 2011 convocation ceremonies, if you are completing degree requirements in Summer 2011 term.
October 14 (Friday)	Deadline to apply without a late fee on the Student Information System for graduation in June 2012 convocation ceremonies, if you are completing degree requirements in Fall 2011 term.
December 16 (Friday)	Deadline to apply with a late fee on the Student Information System for graduation in June 2012 convocation ceremonies, if you are completing degree requirements in Fall 2011 term. (A non-refundable late fee of $50 for each degree, diploma and certificate will be charged.)
