Spring term deadlines

Spring term starts January 5, 2012; last day of exams will be April 23, 2012.

Note that there is a Reading Break from Monday February 13 through Friday February 17.

Classes: add/swap/change tutorial

January 11 (Wednesday) Last day to add classes, swap classes, change tutorials using the Student Information System
January 18 (Wednesday) Last day to enroll for class challenge or switch your challenge from one class to another or regular enrollment in a class, with permission of the department,. (You can’t withdraw from class challenge without substituting a regular class.)
January 25 (Wednesday) Last day to add classes through the department, with permission of the chair and instructor. Last day to change tutorials through the department. Last day to change a class to audit status.

January 11 (Wednesday) Last day to completely withdraw from all classes using the Student Information System, with no Withdrawal notation on your academic record.
January 19 (Thursday) DROP PENALTIES ASSESSED: No tuition refund.
January 25 (Wednesday) Last day to drop a class using the Student Information System, with no Withdrawal notation on your academic record. If withdrawing from all classes, a Withdrawal notation will be added to your transcript. No refund.
February 8 (Wednesday) Last day to drop a class using the Student Information System, with a Withdrawal notation on your academic record. No refund.
April 5 (Thursday) Last day to apply to drop classes in the current term under extenuating circumstances (WE). (Applications received after this date will be considered retroactive and may take longer to process.)

Fees: payment and refunds/penalties

Payment

January 18 (Wednesday) Deadline to pay tuition and student fees. After this date, every month a 2% penalty will be calculated and posted to your student account.
February 22 (Wednesday) Deadline to pay Co-op Practicum fees.

Refunds/penalties

December 2 (Friday) Last day for 100% refund of tuition.
December 3 (Saturday) to January 11 (Wednesday) Tuition penalty of $50 for each class dropped (maximum total penalty $100) during this period, if your net course load has decreased.
January 12 (Thursday) to January 18 (Wednesday) Tuition penalty of $100 for each class dropped during this period, if your net course load has decreased.
January 19 (Thursday) No refund for courses dropped. Tuition penalty will be calculated and posted to your student account in week three of class. After this date, every month a 2% penalty will be assessed on any outstanding balance.
February 17 (Friday) after 2:30 pm Refund cheques REQUESTED for overpayment, which are NOT related to scholarships and bursaries, are available for pickup, UNLESS payment has been made by personal cheque, which requires a 45 day clearance period.

Cards: Library ID/Surrey access and U-Pass BC

January 4 (Wednesday) Start of Library ID card production at all three campuses, during regular office hours. Please see students.sfu.ca/contact.html after December 1 for Spring 2012 hours of operation for Burnaby, Vancouver and Surrey campuses.
U-Pass BC
Students must have an SFU Library/ID card with an activated encoded magnetic stripe on the back, to obtain their U-Pass BC each month. Please see www.sfu.ca/upass for complete information.

Distance education materials/refunds

December 12 (Monday) Class material pickup begins.
February 10 (Friday) Deadline to return class material.

Financial aid

November 7 to 18, 2011 (Monday to Friday) Work-study application period.
January 2 to 20, 2012 (Monday to Friday) Bursary only application period
January 20 (Friday) Deadline for application for private scholarships

Grades online

December 13, 2011 (Tuesday) Grades from Fall 2011 term begin to be posted online.
April 13 (Friday) Grades from Spring 2012 term begin to be posted online.

Graduation application/cancellation

January 5 (Thursday) Deadline to cancel application to graduate in June 2012 convocation ceremonies, if you are completing degree requirements in Fall 2011 term.
February 17 (Friday) Deadline to apply and pay without a late fee on the Student Information System for graduation in June 2012 convocation ceremonies, if you are completing degree requirements in Spring 2012 term.
April 13 (Friday)

Deadline to apply an pay with a late fee on the Student Information System for graduation in June 2012 convocation ceremonies, if you are completing degree requirements in Spring 2012 term. (A non-refundable late fee of $50 for each degree, diploma and certificate will be charged.)

May 7 (Monday) Deadline to cancel application to graduate in June 2012 convocation ceremonies, if you are completing degree requirements in Spring 2012 term.
